"I feel compelled to share my frustrating and disheartening experience with State Farm so that others can be aware of what to expect. I filed a homeowner’s insurance claim due to storm and weather damage. A licensed contractor provided detailed estimates and documentation, but the claim was "partially denied" despite clear evidence of significant damage. The initial adjuster sent by State Farm showed up late and, to my surprise, had less than two years of experience. They never shared any photos or documentation, nor did they address or acknowledge the discrepancies with the contractor’s report. I appealed and was told a new adjuster would be sent. Instead, the same adjuster came back, again offering no pictures and simply stating they "believed" the damage wasn’t from the reported date of loss. It took a full month just to get this second visit. Even with confirmation from the National Weather Service that severe storms occurred on the date in question, State Farm denied the claim based on "timing" and suggested I file a new claim with a different date. This felt like they were dodging responsibility. On the third attempt, I was finally told a new adjuster would arrive. I arranged for my contractor to meet them on-site, only for the new adjuster to completely no-show without any call, email, or explanation. My contractor wasted over 2 hours waiting. No accountability. No follow-up or email from the adjuster. Just silence. While Elijah, my account representative, has tried to be helpful and responsive, nothing has changed. I feel severely underserved and taken advantage of by State Farm. This has dragged on with no resolution, no fairness, and no justice. If you're thinking of insuring your home with State Farm, think twice. This experience has been beyond disappointing for someone trying to make sure their home is protected and safe."
"Simon, I am so sorry for your disappointing experience with our claim team. My team has worked hard to make sure the communication was clear, and that the response was prompt along the way here. With that said, and after fully reviewing the claim estimates, notes and photos, I have to say that I fully support the claim team's decision in this case. Your roof is well beyond it's usable lifespan, it is installed in fashion contrary to all major manufacturer recommendations (and industry standards) since it has 2 layers of shingles. In addition to this, there is significant evidence of prior repairs that have been performed incorrectly. There is clear evidence of rot and deterioration on the roof decking and other areas that indicate this was a known issue when you purchased this home last year. I don't see any evidence (nor do the trained claim adjusters in this case) of direct physical damage caused by storms since we have had coverage on your home. In addition to the facts above, I am also disappointed that the condition of this roof was not disclosed upon the initial application to my staff. We likely could have advised a full roof replacement among other things prior to binding coverage on this property. I will additionally have my underwriting team review the photos submitted on your self-survey of the home to make sure they are representative of the condition of the roof and the actual property. "I already had StateFarm for at least the last 10 years. I’ve dealt with many agents who are all knowledgeable and willing to help. But none of them went above and beyond like Samantha has for me. I just moved to a completely new state and not only did she make the transition of insurance an ease, But when I was asking extra questions, she would either answer them to the best of her abilities or tell me that she would be willing to find out and get back to me later.
